Rhetoric in the Composition Course: How the University of Chicago Created the First Contemporary Composition Program

Join Sigma Tau Delta for our first Brown Bag of the Spring 2019 Semester! Dr. James Beasley, professor of English at UNF, will discuss his book Rhetoric at the University of Chicago. He will discuss how some of the most important rhetorical and compositional documents emerged from the University of Chicago from the early 1940s to the 1960s. Maurren Daly Goggin, Professor of English at Arizona State University and Author of Authoring a Discipline: Scholarly Journals and the Post-World War II Emergence of Rhetoric and Composition, stated “"Beasley’s book belongs on the shelf of everyone serious about the study of rhetoric.” A Q&A session will follow in which attendees can discuss topics further. Drinks and snacks will be provided. We hope to see everyone there!
